A harrowing mid-air hijacking incident on a Tropic Air domestic flight in Belize ended with the death of the perpetrator, a US citizen identified as Akinyela Sawa Taylor. The flight, en route from Corozal to San Pedro, was thrown into chaos when Taylor stabbed the pilot and two passengers.
According to reports, Taylor demanded the plane be diverted, at times requesting to be flown to Mexico and also insisting on landing to refuel. Despite sustaining a stab wound to the back and a punctured lung, one of the passengers, Fitzgerald Brown, who was licensed to carry a firearm, shot and killed Taylor, bringing the terrifying situation to an end.
The plane, escorted by a police helicopter, eventually made a safe landing in the coastal town of Ladyville. The injured pilot and passengers were promptly transported to a hospital. Authorities have confirmed that their injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
The incident has shocked the local community and raised questions about onboard security measures on domestic flights. Further investigations are underway.
