Congress MLA Ramesh Kumar apologizes for his ‘rape comment’

The flippant comment of Congress MLA Ramesh Kumar on rape on 16th December made him a huge troll on social media has apologized. For his comment, Congress has faced an embraced situation in parliament.

“I would like to express my sincere apologies to everyone for the indifferent and negligent comment I made in today’s assembly about rape. My intention was not to trivialize or make light of the heinous crime, but an off-the-cuff remark! I will choose my words carefully henceforth!”, in a tweet, Ramesh Kumar apologized.

Thursday when the discussion was going on flood and rain-related damages in the Karnataka assembly as many MLAs want to speak about the plight of people in their constituencies.

Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri was expressing his helplessness regarding not being able to curtail the lengthy speeches of members then Mr. Kumar had said, “There’s a saying…when rape is inevitable, lie down and enjoy it. That is the situation you are in too.”

In response to this comment, Mr. Kageri had laughed. Any person of the house didn’t object to Mr. Kageri’s response or Mr. Kumar’s comment. Ramesh Kumar came under debate from various sectors for his rape statement including MLAs from his party.

Randeep Singh Surjewala, All India Congress Committee general secretary of Karnataka has opposed this remark. He tweeted, “Congress party disapproves the highly objectionable and insensitive banter between Karnataka Assembly Speaker & Sr Congress MLA in the House. Speaker as custodian & Sr legislators are expected to be role models & should desist from such unacceptable behavior.”

Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani hit Congress when the opposition protest over minister Ajay Mishra, whose son is accused of running the car over the farmers.

Smriti Irani said, “If you truly believe in the cause of women, first stand here and denounce that legislator who said that if you are raped, as a woman in the country you should enjoy it. Those men who stand in this Well today, go back to your political organization and first bring to justice such a man, then we will see who speaks for women and children in this country.”

Rekha Sharma, The chairperson of the National Commission for Women drub his statement in her tweet. She said, “It is extremely sad and unfortunate that we still have a public representative who is misogynist and has a horrible mindset towards women…”
