Prof. Sunita Mishra, Dean BBAU leads the way by implementing her years of research for improving the lives in untouched villages of UP

Lucknow: The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed the world into Lockdown. And, now we have realized the actual importance of immunity and nutrition. And, Prof. Sunita Mishra is an expert and has done remarkable work in this field.

Prof. Sunita Mishra is working for 13 years as Professor and Dean SHS and Head, Food and Nutrition and HDFS in Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar (Central) University, Lucknow. She has teaching experience of 30 years. She acquired a Doctor of Letters (D. Litt) from CCS University, Meerut, and was amongst pioneers from Home Science faculty. Until 2008, she worked in BHU, Varanasi as Assistant Professor and Associate. Later, she joined the post she holds today. While working in BHU, due to her efforts and dedication, she was selected to participate in the International Conference organized by the European Association of Agricultural Economist (EAAE), conducted in Zeist, Netherlands in 2004.

She was invited by Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Blackburg to participate in V Edward via Research Recognition Day, International Seminar, where she presented her research paper, was awarded Nobel Laureate of Medicine Prof. Olive Smithies for her outstanding research about child nutrition. Being a respected academician, a researcher, and a phenomenal teacher, she is a respectable woman. She’s authored 320 research papers, of these about 250 found mention International Journals. She’s a published author and written 22 books on Food Science and Home Science.

She’s a mentor and a guide to 18 research students to accomplish their Ph.D. successfully. She guided more than 250 minor research works. She completed LEAP I.e. Leadership for Academicians Programme by MHRD through IIT-Roorkee. She’s successfully done a course in the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, U.S.A.

Prof. Sunita Mishra is an assessor for NAAC for several institutions. She was an integral part of the UGC Committees for Centres of Excellence. She’s inspected colleges and universities for their affiliation as an expert. Her role includes conducting examinations as Dean of the Faculty.

She is a recipient of awards and laurels throughout her career. In 2018, she received International Award, Life Time Achievement Award in Bali, Indonesia. She’s presented research papers in International Seminars and abroad. She was a Visiting Professor to various universities abroad. She played a key role in Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University Community College and in the adoption of villages. She’s conducted programs on nutritional awareness and the health and hygiene of women and young children. She participated in Anemia MuktAbhiyan in 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

She delivered talks on combating and eradicating anemia. Prof. Mishra developed value-added products with the help of indigenous food grains, herbs, and infused technology for the enhancement of food items in daily life. These helped combat anemia, diabetes, hypertension.

She has researched traditional food practices, associated knowledge and tried to disseminate it in rural areas. Her major UGC project was conducted between 2011-2014 in Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi districts, containing a sizable tribal population. She did a field study in tribal areas, as part of her D.Litt Research Work.
