Santa Fe, N.M. — The world is mourning the loss of legendary actor Gene Hackman, who, along with his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog, was found deceased at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, authorities confirmed Thursday.  

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check at the couple’s residence in a gated community outside of Santa Fe around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Denise Avila confirmed the discovery.

“We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their residence,” Avila stated. “This is an active investigation—however, at this time, we do not believe that foul play was a factor.”  

Gene Hackman, 95, a towering figure in American cinema, leaves behind a legacy of unforgettable performances spanning decades. His career, marked by versatility and a remarkable ability to portray complex characters, earned him critical acclaim and the admiration of audiences worldwide.
