Akshay Kumar‘s latest historical courtroom drama, ‘Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh’, continues its decent performance at the domestic box office, inching closer to the coveted ₹40 crore net mark within its first five days of release. The film, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and also starring R Madhavan and Ananya Panday in pivotal roles, hit the silver screens on April 18, 2025.

According to early estimates from trade sources, ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ has managed to garner approximately ₹38.75 to ₹39.16 crore in net collections in India by the end of its fifth day, which was Tuesday, April 22. The movie witnessed a positive trend in its earnings from Friday to Sunday, capitalizing on the weekend footfalls. However, as the weekdays commenced, the collections expectedly saw a dip on Monday.

Interestingly, the film showed a slight upward trend on its first Tuesday compared to Monday’s earnings, which is considered a positive sign for its sustained run in the coming days. This marginal growth on a working day suggests that the word-of-mouth publicity surrounding the film is having a positive impact on its box office performance.

The day-wise breakdown of the film’s net collections in India, as reported by various trade trackers, stands as follows:

  • Day 1 (Friday): ₹7.75 – ₹7.84 crore
  • Day 2 (Saturday): ₹9.75 – ₹10.08 crore
  • Day 3 (Sunday): ₹11.70 – ₹12.00 crore
  • Day 4 (Monday): ₹4.50 – ₹4.59 crore
  • Day 5 (Tuesday): ₹4.75 – ₹5.04 crore
  • Total (5 Days): Approximately ₹38.75 – ₹39.16 crore

‘Kesari Chapter 2’ delves into the aftermath of the tragic Jallianwala Bagh massacre and narrates the fictionalized account of the events that unfolded as lawyer C Sankaran Nair, played by Akshay Kumar, fought for justice against the British government. The film is inspired by the book “The Case That Shook The Empire” by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat.

While the film has been performing steadily, it remains to be seen how it fares in the long run, especially with other films also running in theaters. However, the positive word of mouth and the slight growth on its first Tuesday indicate a potential for the film to continue its journey towards the ₹50 crore mark in the domestic market.

Globally, ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ has also shown a decent performance, crossing the ₹55 crore mark in worldwide gross collections by the end of its fourth day. The film has surpassed the lifetime collection of some recent Bollywood releases, indicating a favorable response from the audience.

The coming week will be crucial for ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ to maintain its momentum and solidify its position at the box office. The film’s performance will depend on its ability to sustain দর্শক interest amidst new releases and the ongoing audience preferences.
