The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) is a state-level entrance examination conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra, for admissions to various undergraduate professional courses in the fields of Engineering, Pharmacy, and Agriculture in the state. Examination Pattern for PCM Group

The MHT CET 2025 for the PCM group is conducted online as a Computer Based Test (CBT). The examination comprises two sections:

  • Section 1: Physics and Chemistry: This section has a total of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), with 50 questions from Physics and 50 questions from Chemistry. Each question in this section carries 1 mark, making this section worth 100 marks in total. Candidates are allotted 90 minutes to complete this section.
  • Section 2: Mathematics: This section consists of 50 MCQs, with each question carrying 2 marks. Thus, this section is also worth 100 marks. Candidates get 90 minutes to solve the Mathematics section.

Therefore, the entire MHT CET PCM examination includes 150 questions with a total of 200 marks, and the total duration of the examination is 180 minutes (3 hours). There is no negative marking for incorrect answers, which encourages students to attempt all questions. The medium of examination for Physics and Chemistry is English, Marathi, or Urdu, while Mathematics questions are in English.

The syllabus for MHT CET is primarily based on the Class XI and Class XII curriculum of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. Approximately 20% weightage is given to the Class XI syllabus, and the remaining 80% is from the Class XII syllabus.

Detailed Syllabus for PCM

The MHT CET 2025 PCM syllabus encompasses a wide range of topics from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Physics: The syllabus includes topics from both Class XI and XII. Some important topics from Class XII include Circular Motion, Rotational Motion, Oscillations, Gravitation, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Electric Current, Electromagnetic Induction, Wave Optics, Semiconductors, and Communication Systems. Key topics from Class XI include Motion in a Plane, Laws of Motion, Gravitation, Thermal Properties of Matter, Sound, Optics, Electrostatics, and Semiconductors.  

Chemistry: The Chemistry syllabus also draws from Class XI and XII. Important Class XII topics include Solid State, Solutions and Colligative Properties, Chemical Thermodynamics and Energetics, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Coordination Compounds, p-Block Elements, d and f Block Elements, Halogen Derivatives of Alkanes and Arenes, Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen, Biomolecules, Polymers, and Chemistry in Everyday Life. Class XI topics include Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry, Structure of Atom, Chemical Bonding, Redox Reactions, Elements of Group 1 and 2, States of Matter (Gaseous and Liquids), Adsorption and Colloids (Surface Chemistry), Hydrocarbons, and Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry.  

Mathematics: The Mathematics syllabus for Class XII includes Mathematical Logic, Matrices, Trigonometric Functions, Pair of Straight Lines, Circle, Conics, Vectors, Three-Dimensional Geometry, Line, Plane, Linear Programming Problems, Continuity, Differentiation, Applications of Derivatives, Integration, Applications of Definite Integral, Differential Equations, Statistics, and Probability Distribution. Important topics from Class XI include Trigonometry II, Straight Line, Circle, Measures of Dispersion, Probability, Complex Numbers, Permutations and Combinations, Functions, Limits, and Continuity.  

Analysis of Previous Year Question Papers

Analysis of previous year MHT CET PCM question papers reveals that the overall difficulty level is generally moderate, often compared to the JEE Main examination. However, Mathematics is typically considered the most challenging and time-consuming section due to the length and complexity of the problems.
