The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national-level exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to determine the eligibility of candidates for teaching positions in primary and upper primary schools. The December 2024 edition of the CTET is scheduled to be held on December 14, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the CTET, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Age: No upper age limit.

Educational Qualification

Paper 1: Senior Secondary (Class 12) with at least 50% marks and a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) or a Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).

Paper 2: Senior Secondary (Class 12) with at least 50% marks and a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 50% marks in the concerned subjects and a B.Ed. degree.

CTET Exam Pattern

Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 of the CTET consist of five sections:

  1. Child Development and Pedagogy: This section covers topics like child development theories, learning and teaching processes, assessment, and inclusive education.
  2. Language I: This section tests the candidate’s proficiency in one of the languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India.
  3. Language II: This section tests the candidate’s proficiency in a language other than the one chosen for Language I.
  4. Mathematics: This section covers topics like number systems, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data handling.
  5. Environmental Studies: This section covers topics like physical, social, and biological sciences.

Preparation Tips

  • Understand the Syllabus: Thoroughly go through the official syllabus to identify the key topics and subtopics.
  • Refer to Reliable Study Materials: Use NCERT textbooks for Child Development and Pedagogy and Environmental Studies. For other sections, refer to books by renowned authors and coaching institutes.
  • Practice Previous Year Papers: Solving previous year papers will help you understand the exam pattern, time management, and difficulty level.
  • Take Mock Tests: Practice with mock tests to assess your preparation level and identify areas of improvement.
