In a remarkable feat of dedication and perseverance, Dr. R Rangamanju from Bengaluru has secured the 24th rank in the prestigious Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination, emerging as the state topper for Karnataka. The final results, announced by the UPSC on Tuesday, mark the culmination of a rigorous and highly competitive selection process.
Dr. Rangamanju’s journey to this achievement is one of resilience. This was his sixth attempt at the civil services exam, a testament to his unwavering commitment to his dream of serving the nation through administrative roles. Sharing his success, Dr. Rangamanju attributed it to patience and hard work, emphasizing the importance of consistent effort in cracking this challenging examination.
Interestingly, Dr. Rangamanju did not opt for formal coaching for the preliminary and main stages of the examination. He chose Anthropology as his optional subject for the mains exam and relied on self-study and group studies with friends. He did, however, seek guidance from a private academy for the interview stage, which he found very helpful.
Dr. Rangamanju’s academic background reflects a strong foundation. He completed his schooling at National Public School, Rajajinagar, Bengaluru, and went on to obtain his MBBS degree from Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute. He acknowledged the unwavering support of his mother as his biggest source of inspiration. He also expressed his gratitude to his biology teacher, who is now the principal of NPS Rajajinagar, for his early guidance.
This year’s UPSC Civil Services Examination saw a total of 1,009 candidates successfully clear the rigorous three-stage selection process across the country. Notably, Karnataka has emerged as a significant contributor to this success, with more than 30 candidates from the state making it to the final list. Among them, Anupriya Sakya secured an All India Rank of 120, and another doctor, Dayanand, former president of the Karnataka Association of Resident Doctors (KARD), achieved an All India Rank of 615.
Dr. Rangamanju’s achievement adds to the growing list of doctors who have successfully transitioned to civil services, driven by a passion to serve the nation in a different capacity. His success story will undoubtedly inspire countless aspirants, particularly those from medical backgrounds, to pursue their dreams in the civil services. His dedication and the support system he relied upon highlight the diverse paths that can lead to success in one of India’s most challenging examinations.
