Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) recently held its 24th convocation ceremony in Chennai. The event was presided over by the Governor of Tamil Nadu and Chancellor of TANUVAS, R.N. Ravi, who conferred degrees upon the graduating students.
A total of 588 graduates, including 262 women and 326 men, were awarded degrees and diplomas. Among them, 437 received their degrees in person. Additionally, 44 graduates were conferred with Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, 40 with Master of Veterinary Science degrees, and 12 with Master of Technology degrees.
In the undergraduate programs, 371 students received Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry degrees, while 69 received B.Tech degrees in various specializations, including food technology, poultry technology, and dairy technology.
The convocation address was delivered by V. Ram Prasath Manohar, the Chairman of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board. Members of the Board of Management and Academic Council of TANUVAS were also present at the event.
However, the convocation was marred by the absence of the Pro-Chancellor and Minister for Fisheries, Fishermen Welfare, and Animal Husbandry, Anitha Radhakrishnan. Her absence raised eyebrows and sparked discussions among attendees and observers.
The reason for the Minister’s absence remains unclear. While some speculate that it might be due to other commitments or unforeseen circumstances, others believe it could be a deliberate decision, possibly signaling a lack of interest or support for the university and its students.
TANUVAS, a premier institution in veterinary and animal sciences, has been instrumental in advancing research and education in these fields. The convocation is a significant event that recognizes the achievements of the graduating students and celebrates their contributions to the field.
