The Vice-Chancellor of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, has requested the Central Government to provide adequate security to facilitate his return to the campus on December 2nd, 2024. He cited “insufficient” security cover provided by the Meghalaya government as the reason for this request.
This comes amidst ongoing protests by students and faculty members demanding the removal of the VC and Registrar. The protests, which began on October 25th, 2024, have disrupted university operations and led to allegations of mismanagement and administrative failure.
Prof. Shukla has also requested the Centre to take immediate action to address the alarming situation at the university. He expressed concerns about the safety of himself and other university employees, and the impact of the unrest on the institution’s academic activities.
