A BJP leader was hacked to death in his house in the Alappuzha district of Kerala on Sunday. The incident has happened within 12 hours of the killing of a state-level political leader of the Social Democratic Party of India on Saturday night.

The police officer said that the BJP OBC Morcha state secretary advocate Ranjith Sreenivas was attacked in the early morning of Sunday in his house in Alappuzha city. A gang entered Ranjith’s house and hacked him several times. He was getting ready for the morning walk at that time. As a BJP candidate, he contested the recent assembly elections of Kerala.

On Saturday night SDPI state secretary K S Shan was also attacked by a gang in Alappuzha. He was riding a two-wheeler and at that moment a car was hit on him. The attackers stepped out of the car and hacked him numerous times. At first, he was taken to a local hospital but later transferred to Kochi Government hospital where he died at midnight.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has expressed his mourning for the two killings in Alappuzha. He stated, “There would be stringent police action to nab the assailants as well as those who worked behind the heinous killings. Such criminal activities are detrimental to society. I am sure that people would isolate the criminal elements and their hateful attitude.”

The district officials said that prohibitory order under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) Section 144 has imposed in the entire Alappuzha district on Sunday. The order is imposed for two days. A large number of police have been posted in the premises of Government Medical College in Kochi, where the body of the SDPI leader K S Shan is kept.

The police superintendent of the Alappuzha district said that an investigation is going on and the police are glancing into whether the kill is related and retaliatory.

He said, “A few persons have been taken into custody in connection with the killings. There was no laxity on the part of the police to monitor the situation after the last day’s killing (of SDPI leader). We had deployed more force in several areas after the Saturday night’s killing, but could not prevent Sunday’s killing.”
